Melvern Riverfront Park Trail

Finally remembered to put the little flexible tripod in the bag so we could get a picture of us together!
Tonight we decided to try something a little different.  We drove about 20 minutes over to the town of Melvern, to the Melvern Riverfront Park and Trail.   Its not a long trail.   It took us a bit to figure out the layout of the land.   We ended up riding back and forth on the main biking trail for a total of just under 5 miles.  This was a much more strenuous ride than the flatter rail trails.  I enjoyed the change of pace.  We got to ride down along the Marais Des Cynges River.  There were several spots where one could stop and fish along the river if someone was so inclined.   There is a Killer hill to ride up if one chooses to die right there on the spot.   We rode down it right at the very start.  Never once attempted to climb it because we enjoy life :D.

Who says Kansas is flat?  This hill was a bee-otch to ride down.  Needless to say, we didn't even attempt to ride up it.
Very nice seating area

The trail abruptly ends at the river at this spot.
That's how close the trail is to the Marais des Cygnes River (that's mare-uh-duh-zeen, for those not from this area) LOL

Very beautiful and very fun twisty trail.

Which way to go from here?  Well, here's a tip:  Do NOT take the Spirit Trail.......
....... because you're going to end up on something that looks like this.

Husband and bike on the Spirit Trail for reference.  Um, yeah.  That's NOT a bike trail.
Brochure available at the entrance to the park

While separate from the River Trail, when you leave from the trail, if you just continue straight on Pine Street to the other side of town (i.e. about 4 blocks) you will happen upon this cool old bridge over the railroad tracks.

Hey! That would make a heckuva trail, wouldn't it? :)
