Rim Rock Cross Country Classic - South Lawrence Trafficway Trail

Today my daughter who we have nicknamed the Road Runner ran in the Blue Race at the Rim Rock High School Classic.  So named because it is run on KU's Cross Country course north of Lawrence named Rim Rock.   In regards to attending meets there.   If you have access to a helicopter...  Use it!  It took us 1 hour to travel 2.5 miles on the gravel road up to the course.  There are so many cars,  I don't think biking there would have been a good option either.  With the rain we had Saturday morning the course was quite treacherous!  So proud as my daughter finished 10th out of 238 runners in her race.   Runners come from throughout the Midwest.

Crossing the Finish Line!  I spy a handsome dude.. Red Jacket.. Blue Camera Phone behind her..  Thats Me! ~~S

Example of one of the infamous Hills of Rim Rock!

After the race we grabbed a bite to eat at Carlos O'Kellys.   Then after letting the scrumptious food settle we headed out from my parents house down the steep hill on Wakarusa and met up with the South Lawrence Trafficway Bike Trail.

Sign was actually near the east end of the trail by 23rd street and 10 Highway
Bridge we have seen from 10 Highway hundreds of times and today we crossed it!

This is a very nice paved trail.   We road east on the trail all the way to 23rd street.  It was close to a 5 mile trek from our starting point on Wakarusa to 23rd street.  So our ride ended up just a hair of over 10 miles.   If you go west from our starting point, the trail will curve and head north and actually goes all the way north following along with 10 Highway all the way out to the I-70 Turnpike entrance.  We plan to ride that portion another day.  We met quite a few walkers, joggers, and other bicyclists along the trail, out enjoying the beautiful cool afternoon.
