Redbud Trail - Andover, KS

For Sunday of Labor Day weekend 2020, we drove to the Wichita area to ride the Redbud Trail.

We had intended to do a 20-40 mile ride, but some unexpected trail construction, 95 degree temperatures and 30 mph wind changed our minds and we ended up doing 15 miles and were happy with that.

Luckily the 30 mph wind was all a crosswind this day, so it really didn't impact our riding. In fact, it actually helped created a nice "breeze" to keep the temperature bearable on the mostly un-shaded trail on a day the heat index was over 100. It was a nice trail, both paved and crushed limestone, and both surfaces were in great shape.

The trail ends at Hwy 400/54, a 4-lane highway that is lacking a pedestrian bridge.

Standard Kansas rail-trail scenery.

Not sure where the 6-track RR sign came from! There is no indication that there was ever 6 tracks at this location.

All in all, it was a nice ride.

Video of our ride. Clearly we didn't get the Contour Roam calibrated to the horizon. LOL!

  1. Looks like it was a nice ride despite the heat and wind. The western end is pretty much downtown Wichita and connects to the canal path. It used to be passable all the way until they recently started working to pave more of it. It was a neat old bridge that they took out over 400. I and others rallied to have them save it. I did get to ride over it once before they tore it down. The 6 tracks sign is interesting. I've never seen it but it's been a bit since we've been on that trail.
