Mission Beach - San Diego, CA

He had a work conference in San Diego and she tagged along for the scenery ...... because ocean.

We flew into LA,

......... rented a car and took the famed 405 South.

As we drove along, we tried to name all the TV shows and movies
we could think of that have referenced the "405".

Carpool lane definitely made this drive much easier!

Well, hello there, ocean. We don't see you on too many of our road trips.

Had to dine at the iconic In-N-Out Burger
We checked out a Padres vs. Brewers game. Ian Kennedy was the Padres pitcher, later traded to the Royals. We also had a home run ball land about 5 rows in front of where we were sitting. That was cool.

How cool is this bike?

And how about this gorgeous sunset?

Walk back to our hotel from the game through the Gaslamp Quarter.

No trip to San Diego is complete without a visit to Kansas City Barbeque

Because.......
A collage of the filming of Top Gun at the site.
and one of the funniest collections of nasty bumper stickers I've ever seen.  LOL
And hell yeah......
Wall-to-wall Kansas memorabilia (owners are native Kansans)

But, hey, this is a bike blog, right?  So I suppose we should talk about our bike ride, too.  We drove up to Mission Beach and rented bikes from the Decobike bike share system and rode along the Mission Beach-Pacific Beach Boardwalk.

Super cool octopus mosaic art

After the sun went down, we had supper at a beachside restaurant, World Famous Seafood.

The next day, she needed to find something to occupy her time while he attended conference sessions, so she walked across the street to the San Diego Harbor and rented another Decobike and rode around the harbor area.

An elusive seal. I just wasn't fast enough getting my camera out.

A contrast in centuries.......

So many pretty harbor views...........

I always love to see art on my rides, beautifying our world..
When the conference was over, it was time to head back to LA. Since we had several hours of padding in our schedule, we decided to skip the freeway, and instead experience the scenic beauty of the Pacific Coast Highway on the drive back north.

Last stop on this trip was a bucket list item for him: Seeing the Scorpions in concert.
Also a very special Birthday present!...S
Concert was held at The Forum in Inglewood
I appear to be giddy as a school girl!...S
Hahaha! To use the vernacular of the era, I just think this picture is quite gnarly.
Thanks, dude in front of us, for providing me with such a great photo op! :)

My generally reticent husband ended up striking up a conversation that became ongoing throughout the concert with the friendly guy sitting next to him, because when you have a love of the Scorpions in common you instantly become friends, I guess.  :)
Anyway, nice stranger took this picture of us having a great time.
(Small world he had spent some time in the Kansas City area as a young lad...S)

Here is a video of our beachfront ride!
