Rock Island Trail - Pleasant Hill, MO

When we heard that they were going to be soon opening a connection from the Kansas City suburb of Pleasant Hill to the Katy Trail we were excited to give it a try. So excited that when we had an unseasonable warm weekend day in early February of 2017.  We decided to give the Rock Island Trail (Link) a try.  I had tried to look on google maps for the trailhead, but because this was all new it was not showing.  So I picked a parking lot off of Wyoming and 2nd Street where some had suggested to park online.  We quickly discovered that this would require us to have to ride along a paved road with no shoulder to get to where the trail actually started.  Neither of us like to ride on the road because of the lack of respect by many who share the road with us.  When you watch the video, you will hear my Sweetie pontificating on her dislike for said start to our ride...  :D  It was a nice ride.  A bit bumpy at times due to those choosing to ride when the trail was soft.  It was also quite busy for a February day.  I am guessing the mid 70's temperatures had something to do with that! We did get a nice 37.51 mile ride in by riding out to the Medford Trailhead and back.

Neat sign where the trail actually started

Fine example of the flat surface of this new rail trail

Blue River Greenway -- Kansas City, MO

The winter of 2016-2017 was very mild for here, with another bike ride during the winter month of February!  We decided to spend our Saturday riding the portion of the Blue River Greenway (Link) that connects with the Indian Creek Greenway (Link) that we have blogged about previously.  We were a bit lazy and didn't take pictures or video of our ride other than this picture of a sign along the trail.  It's a nice trail that can be quite busy during the summer months.   There is also an extensive network of mountain bike trails in the park as well.  We tend to avoid those like the plague. :D   I do believe this also was the first major ride with my Sweetie's new Diamondback bike that is much lighter than her previous folding mountain bike.   She really seems to like it, as I had difficulty keeping up with her!
